Rocky Harbour, NL - Gros Morne National Park

Great breakfast at the Hilltop Inn - eggs, bacon, ham, toast, juice, fruit with yogurt, and coffee/ tea.  The ham and toast made us a nice ham sandwich for lunch.

Our first hike was the Coastal Trail

Through the woods

Along the coast

Along the tuckamore - the shrubs that have been shaped by the wind, at first they appear to be total ground cover but then there are cave like openings

Hollow inside - high enough to walk inside if you would so choose

We made it to the big red beach chairs on the beach.  Parks Canada has red chairs placed in all Canadian National Parks - take your picture in a red chair, submit picture and enter contest.

Then we were off to the boat tour of Western Brook Pond

Beautiful hike getting to the boat dock

The boat coming in

We were lucky and got seats on the upper deck, great views

Looking back at the lake on our hike out

We took a different trail on the way out, we were going to locate some more red chairs but the hike to the chairs required crossing a creek with pretty fast currents - we nixed that plan.

Almost back to the car

Tomorrow - we are doing a ranger led hike of the Table Lands area of the park.  people say it looks like Mars - no trees.

Gander, NL to Rocky Harbour, NL

Beautiful drive getting to Canada National Park - Gros Morne.  We're staying at the Hilltop Inn in Rocky Harbour.

We decided to purchase annual park passes to Canada National Parks.  Fortunately, they gave us credit for all the individual entrance fees we paid so far on the trip - Anne of Green Gable Historic Site, Alexander Graham Bell, the Citadel in Halifax, Terra Nova National Park, PEI National Park, Cape Breton National Park - so after all the credits we only owed $20 for our annual passes - good through August 31, 2017!

The landscape is amazing.

Tide was out

View of Rocky Harbour

Stopped at Java Jack's for a late lunch - soup, tea and latte.

Cute place but food was so so.  We'll go somewhere else tomorrow.

Tomorrow we booked a 2 hour cruise, a 2 hour cruise, to Western Brook Pond - fiord located in Gros Morne National Park.  There's a 30 minute hike to get to the boat dock.  Our tour starts at 3:00 pm.
