Gander, NL to St. John's, NL

We left the Inn on Bennett and headed to the post office - we forgot to leave the room key for our place in Rocky Harbour - put it in an envelope and sent it to them!

We arrived at Terra Nova National Park and did a section of the Coastal Trail - short hike

Part of the trail was on the beach

Then back into the woods

Had a bowl of soup at the Park's cafe and left for St. John's.  Tonight we're staying in the dorms at Memorial University - we stayed here July 15 and 16.

Some of the wild flowers and plants seen on our journey

we saw the following plants at Gros Morne:  cow parsnips

Harebell

Showy lady's slipper

Marsh marigold

?

At Terra Nova- field horsetail ( in the fern family )

Iris we saw everywhere

Lupines, alongside the road everywhere

Tomorrow we head to Bay Bulls for two nights - a short drive from St. John's .  We'll get in a hike on the East Coast Trail on the way there - not sure what section of the trail.

Rocky Harbour, NL to Gander, NL

We said a tearful goodbye to Francis, the proprietor of Pittman's Hilltop Inn, after another great breakfast.  She was terrific.

Stopped at the Gros Morne National Park Visitor Center on the way out.  We asked the staff to identify some of the plants and flowers we had taken pictures of.

Pulled out for photos at a lookout of Bonne Bay

The "red chairs"

Drove a little bit further and stopped for one last hike, a short one - Southeast Brook Falls

Finally, heading to Gander, arrived at 6:00 pm.  Today, we drove about 200 miles in 7-8 hours.  We did stop for soup and coffee/tea at Eddie's Diner on the way, terrific homemade soup.

Here we are, back at the Inn on Bennett in Gander, Newfoundland.

Tomorrow, back to St. John's - a little over 300 kilometers away.
