Arlene Ruark, Marilyn Vohs and I are heading back to the Grand Canyon, going to the South Rim and the North Rim. Then we're off to Zion and Bryce, Escalante Staircase and Bears Ears. All our cabins/hotels/bed and breakfasts are booked and dinner reservations have been made.
The last time the three of us were at the Grand Canyon was the North Rim in October 2014.

How much water and snacks to carry when we hike from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon down to Phantom Ranch? Which trail will be take? Marilyn and I are relying on Arlene to help answer these questions.
We may not know which trail until we head out on August 17. We were only able to get reservations for one night at Phantom Ranch - August 17.
Bright Angel Trail - has water stops and restrooms along the route, and a tiny bit of shade. 9.9 mile hike.
South Kaibab Trail - no water available and no restrooms along the route, and no shade, 7.4 miles, its also shorter but steeper than Bright Angel Trail.
Both routes take about the same time to hike.
We'll decide on August 16 which route we will take. If it's super hot, we will take Bright Angel down and back up. If it's not too hot, we may take South Kaibab down and then come back up via Bright Angel.
The answer and photos will be posted on August 18 - the day we hike back up.
